Veteran's Day Nails! Oo-rah!

In honor of Veteran's Day and my beloved Marine Corp's 236 birthday (yesterday) I thought I would do my own patriotic nails!  I took my cue from the Marine Corps' Dress Blues. Ask any Marine, and he/she will tell you that the very BEST uniform of any service branch is our Marine Corps' Dress Blues!
I know that one of the reasons I joined was partly because of the uniforms!  I mean really-navy blue, blood red, and gold?  You can't go wrong with that!
If you have no idea what the Marine Corps uniform looks like, let me describe them for you-and then at the end is a picture of me from 20 years ago in my own Dress Blues.
The jacket is dark navy blue with blood red piping on the shoulders and the cuffs.  The buttons are gold and have the eagle, globe and anchor on them. The pants are a brighter blue and have a red "blood stripe" down the sides that only non-commissioned officers wear. It is to honor fallen comrades.
The Blues Uniform has essentially been in its current form since the 19th century.
The Marine Corps' Dress Blues are also the only uniform that has all three colors of our country's flag in it.
The dress blues uniform is stunning!  So for this nail art, I had to use stunning nail polish. I used Essie Midnight Cami for the base coat on all of my nails except my ring finger. On my ring finger, I used Essie Mezmerised.  I used two coats of each and they both went on amazingly!  (I love Essie!)
With  dotting tool, I drew red lines with Revlon Colorstay Forever Scarlet. I have had this polish FOREVER!  I then used the dotting tool to make the buttons using Pop Beauty Golden Metal.
I didn't really like how the red came out, so I went over it with OPI Meep, Meep, Meep!  That really made it stand out!  I then top coated with Seche Vite.  I love how it turned out!
So, here I am going to a Marine Corps Ball for the Marine Corps Birthday (USMC birthday is November 10 and founded inside a bar)!  I was with my friend Olga and our boyfriends took the picture-they have since been cut out of the picture. :o)
The women's dress blues do not have as much red striping in them. If you want to see the men's dress blues click here.
I hope you enjoyed the little history lesson about something near and dear to my heart and I also hope you enjoyed my first ever design!
