October Monthly Favorites!

IS it that time already?!  It seems I just posted my September Monthly Favorites!  October was full of new things, so here we go!
FAVORITE NAILS:
I have changed the title on this first one. Rather than calling it Favorite Polishes, it is now Favorite Nails.  The reason being that I felt I was being redundant in my monthly posts.  I found I was reposting the same brand in two or three categories. This also allows me to show my favorite NAIL pictures which may or may not have my favorite polishes.

#1:   Maya Cosmetics Ignis:  I do not like orangey-red polishes. As a rule, I cannot stand them!  I was stunned into silence when I put on Ignis from Maya Cosmetics' The Aequilibrium Collection.  It was the epitome of orange-red AND it was a jelly.  AND I COULDN'T STOP STARING AT IT.  The color is almost neon and the flakes add a major bonus.  What I thought would not look good on me has become one of my favorites!

#2: Rainbow Honey 20% Cooler: When I put 20% Cooler on, some crazy, artistic creativity took ahold of me and I found myself really playing with the photos!  I love the look over 20% Cooler over a lighter blue and matted over black.  Here are two of my favorite photos...

#3:   Breast Cancer Heartbreak: When I was asked to participate in a breast cancer awareness manicure, I was forced to stare my grief and anger of losing my nana in the face.  Little did I know, what a great support I would find in the nail community!  It really touched my heart to see the many kind comments on my blog and Facebook page.  That cliche of realizing I am not alone really rang true for me after seeing all of the heartfelt comments and other women's gut-wrenching stories. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

BRANDS THAT IMPRESS:
These are brands that have in one way or another gone above and beyond my expectations.

Dior:  Dior Shadow exceeded every expectation I had!  And believe me, my expectations were HIGH. To pay such high dollar for a polish is a rarity for me, and I expected it to have excellent application, great wear time, and be so stunning that I couldn't stop staring at it. YES, YES, and YES!  It was well worth the money I paid for it, and I will gladly buy Dior again. When I can afford it.
Maya Cosmetics:  In May of this year, a stranger-Kat- reached out to me, told me she was planning on starting her own polish line, and asked me to give her input on her polishes.  I almost said no, but for some reason, I didn't.  Fast forward to October, Kat has an amazing polish line called Maya Cosmetics. I reviewed all 15 polishes on my blog and was FLOORED by every aspect of them.  I consider it to be on the same level as Girly Bits and Cult Nails.

BLOGS OF NOTE:
Sometimes, I find a treasure of a blog that seems to fly under the radar. Sometimes, I find myself soaking in a lot of information from a particular blog.  Either way, these are blogs that have grabbed my attention.

Nails and a Westie  is a blog that is flying under the radar.  She loves indie polishes and her photos are awesome close ups!  She shows polishes in a new and fresh way.  The name is really cool too.  Why aren't you guys following her???  I can't get enough of her! And while you're at it, you can go like her Facebook page

INDIES TO WATCH:
With almost 300 indie brands, it can be hard to know who to buy from.  I want to showcase ones I have found that may show promise.

Maya Cosmetics:  I have been communicating with and Kat and using her polishes since May.  So while she is not new to me, I know that she is very new to all of you. I can say with no reservations that I fully endorse and support her business. Her polishes are incredibly well-made. She doesn't just make glitter polishes like many other indies-she makes shimmers, jellies, and top coats as well. Her polishes aren't even expensive-$8 each and pretty cheap shipping too.
Jindie Nails is crazy awesome to me!  I met her when she asked me to review some polishes and I fell in love with them!  She is very creative and has some real stunners in her repertoire.  If you haven't bought from her yet, you should!

NPR FINDS:
I love jewelry, strange art, and stalking shops, so each month I will show you something awesome I found! Expect to see a lot of jewelry!

Suami: One of my other loves is crochet.  This shop sells crochet of really tiny animals!  While the prices are way too high for me, I certainly admire the art!  She has everything from wiener dogs to smurfs!

Nailventurous Lacquers The Shimmer Effect

I have been putting off wearing my last two Nailventurous polishes. I think it is because she is no longer making them and no longer selling them. ONce I try the last two on, I won't have anymore to share with you on my blog.  My all-time favorite indie polish maker.  Done.  :o( I think I might be in mourning right now. LOL  My last two have been sitting on my desk forever, so I finally decided to put one on.  The Shimmer Effect is a stunning polish.  A jelly purple with a sprinkling of green and yellow glitters and some micro fine glitters as well, make this beauty stand out!
This has been sitting on my desk for months and is still in beautiful condition!  I only used two coats that covered flawlessly, and the glitters spread out evenly. I had no issues at all with it. I had multiple people notice my manicure too!  I am so sad that I have only one more to show you, but it is a doozy!
Nailventurous is no longer selling her polishes, but you can find a few of her polishes made with her blessing over at Ninja Polish.  She also has a fantastic blog that I have been following now for a year-I'm Feeling Nail-venturous.  Go check her out!  Also, LIKE! her Facebook page!

Say It Really Fast-Girly Bits' SoFa King Messy

Say it really fast three times in a row...SoFa King Messy.  SoFa King Messy. Sofakingmessy.  Did you get the inside joke?  Did you?  If you did, then you now know the reason this polish came to be.  Pam from Girly Bits was working with some glitter, and somehow a TON of glitter spilled and went EVERYWHERE.  She carefully saved whatever glitter she could that wasn't contaminated and put it into this polish!
SoFa King Messy is a clear-based polish made up mainly of aqua glitters.  There are random bits of red, orange, gold, blue... You name it, it's there!  I put two coats over Maya Cosmetics Enigma, a chocolate brown shimmer.  I thought it would look really autumnal that way.
I also layered it over ManGlaze ILF.  I love how this looks!  It really showcases the other colors in SoFa King Messy.
Here is a close-up of SoFa King Messy in all its glory!  It went on easily and evenly.  Girly Bits polishes are really a treasure to apply. When I say there are good indies and there are great indies, Girly Bits is one of the great ones.   I have NEVER even remotely had a quality issue or an application issue with her polishes. What's more, her CS is top notch. She stands behind her polishes and they are very well made and creative.
SoFa King Messy will not be for sale to the public; however, you can buy any of her other polishes at a number of sites.  Girly Bits is based out of Canada, so if you are from Canada, it may be easier to buy straight from there.

Dior Shadow-WOW.

Today is an epic day for me.  I am posting about my first purchased Dior.  The night before I flew to PA to visit my niece, I asked some nail friends which nail polish I should wear that would last me several days without chipping.  It was a resounding cry for Dior Shadow!
Dior Shadow is a blackened purple with purple shimmer.   The $24 price tag on these is-dare I say- WORTH EVERY PENNY.  The brush is flat with an oval shape on the end. It is wide and very well made.  The first stroke I put on my pinkie made me draw in my breath!  One stroke covered perfectly my entire pinkie.  NO clean up. No mess up. Perfect line around the cuticle. AMAZING.
I admit it took a couple of nails to get used to the quality and width of the brush, but I got used to it QUICK.  I used two coats and got even, perfect coverage.
The blackened purple alone is enough to make me buy this polish, but the shimmer in it is the mother lode!  It is what makes this polish special!  I will admit, I have had a hard time committing to buying Dior.  The colors I have seen usually have a dupe I can get for less.  Having tried a Dior, I am head over heels in love with the quality and the brush! As long as it is a unique color, I have no problem paying the price for quality like this!
Sorry for the spam of pictures, but I edited so many out, it felt like a sin to leave out these!
Dior can be bought many places!  Dior.com, Amazon, Ebay, and the larger department stores all carry Dior.  They retail for $24 each.

My Sister Uses My Untrieds Before Me!

When I visited my sister in PA, I brought a bunch of untrieds for her to play with.  Below are some of her manicures that she did!
The first one she picked up was Dandy Nails Eager Eyes.  She used two coats of this blue holographic beauty.
On her toes, she put Illamasqua Prosperity with Essie Set in Stones over the top.
And of course, you saw this one two days ago... When we went to NYC, we both wore Whimsical Ideas by Pam's I Love NY. She wore it over Illamasqua Phallic.  No, I did not tell her the name of the polish. )
What do you think of my sister's taste in my untried polishes?

My Ciate Velvet Manicure Experience

While I was in NYC, I visited one of the many Sephora's in Times Square.  While there, I saw the Ciate Velvet Manicure sets.  I decided to try it out really quickly on my thumb.  Let me just say that I did this really quickly in the store, so maybe my experience would have been different had I bought it and tried it in the comfort of my home...
I read the instructions, which said to put two coats of the polish on.  Immediately after putting the second coat on, you are to shake the powder out of the sifter bottle that it comes in.  I had a hard time getting the powder to come out and to fall on my nail.  It seemed to want to go everywhere except my nail.  I managed to finally get enough on my nail after making a minor mess.
It says to brush off the excess from the nail with the brush that is supplied.  I started to do this and then immediately stopped.  It started to take off all the power, so I used the brush only to clean up around my nail.  Here is the result.  I thought it was cute and with more practice would look exceptional despite the application issues.  However....
this is what my nail looked like less than two hours later.  :o(  What a bummer!  It was great that I was able to try it out without the expense of having to buy it myself. I felt that it was a great waste of money.

Whimsical Ideas by Pam's I LOVE NY GOES TO NEW YORK!

My niece turned five this year.  For her first three years, she lived near me and I was there to celebrate her birthday each time.  When they moved to the opposite side of the country, I determined that I would be there for her birthday each year. One bonus of them living in PA, is that my sister and I can spend a day in NYC.  We have made this a yearly tradition as well.
I decided to bring Whimsical Ideas by Pam's I Love NY.
My sister and I both wore it and are holding the inspiration for this polish in our hands.  I told Pam I was going to wear her polish to NY and get a pic of it wearing the shirt. So, I didn't buy the shirt, but I did find it in  sticker form!  (I bought a grey sweatshirt, but it was dark by the time I found it.)
My sister wore my untried Illamasqua Phallic as a base and I Love NY.
I wore I Love New York over Illamasqua Prosperity, one of their new rubber finish polishes.
To order from Whimsical Ideas by Pam, just email her your order at pea422000@yahoo.com.    You can see the photos of the polishes she is selling, by clicking HERE.  Once you email her, she will email you back with the cost, including shipping. You just pay her via Paypal and she sends you the polish!

Rescue Beauty Lounge-Halcyon (Fan 2.0 Collection)

I just recently got into Rescue Beauty Lounge.  When I first started hoarding um, I mean collecting nail polish, $20 for a polish seemed outrageous.  But like any polish aficionado, I slowly warmed to the idea  of paying $20 and even as much as $30 for a bottle of lacquer that I really wanted.  I have only done it for two brands-RBL and Dior.  But I wouldn't hesitate to do it for a VHTF that was on my wish list.  Now that I have gone through my stash list to see which polishes I own that cost me $20+, there are actually only three RBL's and the one Dior.  The other RBL's were from a swap.  I'm not sure why you need to know all this information, but it sure made me feel better about myself!

Anywho, on to the gorgeous Halcyon by RBL!  I used two coats of Halcyon and it was very easy to apply. In the bottle you can see the pink shimmer that is in the sage green polish.  It translates very well onto the nail as well!  Some polishes show you an intense shimmer in the bottle, but no matter what you do, it just doesn't show on the nail.  This one does not disappoint.  I don't know what it is about the RBL's, but I have the hardest time capturing their true beauty!  Halcyon is way better looking in person.
One issue I had was chipping.  I used a base coat and a top coat, but I had severe chipping on my thumb and index finger on my right hand.  It happened in 20 hours of wearing Halcyon.  All my other nails still looked great and had such minor tip wear after 20 hours, that you had to look very closely to even see it.
So, I'm not sure what that means.  I did everything I know how to do, including wrapping my tips, and two nails chipped. :o/  Not the end of the world, but enough to stand up and take notice.

Jindie Nails-Talk 2 the Hand!

Jindie Nails.  If you haven't perused her shop, you MUST!  I have some real polish gems made by her and today, I am going to show you another one! This glitter polish is called Talk 2 The Hand.  It consists of a mix of sizes of pink and green and gold hex glitters.   I layered it over two different colors. the first color is Milani Hi-Tech.  I used two coats over both colors.
It layered pretty well and I loved the contrast of colors!  I know this reads springtime, but I couldn't help myself!  The glitters just begged me to put them over something light and airy!
Here is Talk 2 The Hand over Hi-Tech in the sun.  The green base really makes Talk 2 the Hand stand out!
In the description of Talk 2 the Hand in Jindie's Etsy shop, it says it can be made opaque on its own, but I used three coats and did not get full coverage.  I felt it was best to use it over another color. :o)  While some of the glitters may look like they are curling, that is just REFLECTIVE.  The glitters all laid flat on my nail.
I couldn't get enough of this polish, so I used it over China Glaze GR8 as well!  I used two coats again and it looks fantastic paired together!
This is a perfect springtime polish!

Jindie Nails Femme Fire

I want to show you another Jindie Nails beauty!  Femme Fire is a pink crelly polish with large matte red hex, medium yellow and red matte hexes, small orange and red hexes, and lastly micro fine orange and red glitters.
I used three coats for even coverage and full opacity. You could get away with two coats, however.  All the glitters came out well and went on easily except the large red ones, which came out better when I turned the bottle upside down for about 30 seconds.  One thing I really liked is that the glitters showed through the layers and didn't look covered up by the "creme" of the polish.  One of my pet peeves is when the glitters look like they were "painted" over.  This is a beautiful girly pink polish and I love the added surprise of yellow and orange glitters!
